Production Log Week 4

What progress did you make since your previous entry?

This week I had finished editing one interview together which was Suntia's one, and I had more than halfway done Mrs Lowndes interview. I went to Westfield and filmed all my pieces to camera shots and any location shots I could get to make sure I had enough. However, I did not get to film any Vox pops in and around Westfield which was a dissapoint because the area is very appealing.

What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The logistical challenges I faced were that the security came over and said I couldn't use the tripod anymore as it wasn't safe. However I did manage to film my pieces to camera in time so it wasn't as much as a problem. The real issue was not getting the Vox pops filmed because I was running out of time as I had to go to work, and no one wanted to be filmed as they were in a rush or didn't want to be on camera which seems to be the main problem. To overcome this, all I could do was to film down my street so people were familiar of who I am and hopefully they would be willing to be on camera.

What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them?

There were no technical challenges at all that I faced this week as the iMac was working perfectly fine and I managed to get most of the editing done on the interviews. This allowed me more time because I wasn't put back at all.


What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?

My aim for next week is to get all the vox pops done and to film any cutaway shots that need to be done. Then I will upload any of this footage up and finish editing. 

Production Log Week 3

What progress did you make since your previous entry?

This week I had decided to do shots of the school and me walking to the school as extra footage for when I go to interview Mrs Lowndes as her interview was in her office in the school. I also wanted to do the vox pops, which again didn't go to plan as no one wanted to be filmed which became a disadvantage as it meant more time was wasted.

What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The logistical challenges I faced were the vox pops, purely because people didn't want to be on camera but didn't mind the idea of actually answering the questions which didn't come to any use because I needed to film them. To overcome this issue, I had to try and find another time to do the voxpops, but this time I wanted to go Westfield to film as I thought there would be more tourism there and people would be likely to want to answer questions.

What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them?

I didn't face any technical challenges this week because I was focusing more on getting the vox pops done during my editing time. But because trying to get the vox pops was such a problem I had wasted editing time during my school lesson hours. To overcome this, I would have to spend my lunch times and frees catching up on the editing.

What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?

My aim for next week is to get my Vox Pops done on the weekend at Westfield. Also while I'm at Westfield I am going to do my pieces to camera with many different locations shots for the intro of my documentary. In my frees and during lunch times I am going to edit my interviews together with all the cutaways so I know that it is done.

Production Log Week 2

What progress did you make since your previous entry?



I interviewed Mrs Lowndes on the 9th Friday and uploaded the footage onto the iMac and managed to do a little bit of editing but not a great amount of the interview between me and Sunita. However, I did not manage to do my Vox Pops because of the weather.

What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

The logistical challenges I faced were the Vox Pops. When it came to the weekend I went around on the streets to ask people my set of questions... however the weather worsened as it became rainy and windy so I had to stop because I didn't want the equipment getting wet. To overcome this problem, I had to plan another day to do the vox pops which I had decided to do during school time as I thought would be better because there is also a park next to the school.

What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them?

I had no technical challenges as of this week because I didn't do a lot of editing on the iMac. This also had benefited me as it gave me a chance to edit more without any problems occurring and making me slow down which was an advantage as I only have a couple of weeks to finish this documentary. 

What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?


My aim is to upload any footage that I have done and to film vox pops during school time in the park and in the street. I also want to plan out what my intro will be like.

Location Reccies

This is Chadwell Heath Academy where I am going to film most of my documentary. The classrooms, offices, hallways and playground are all the locations in this building that I am going to use. My documentary is based on young people being under pressure where I relate back to students suffering from exam stress and work load. Using this location will reflect on the subject of what I am talking about, hence the reason as to why I am using it.

Production Log Week 1

What progress did you make since your previous entry?

My first week is where I filmed once on the 3rd of January in London. I interviewed a hypnotherapist called Sunita Pattani in her clinic. While I was in London, I walked around and took some shots of the London Eye and myslef near the River Thames as I wanted more of a visually appealing footage other than just having the same home location shots which I didn't think was creative enough. Opening my documentary with shots of Westfield and London made my documentary more enjoyable to watch as I had gone out of my way to travel to a different part of where I live and to capture some great shots.

What logistical challenges did you face and how did you overcome them?

My friend, Farhana, who is also making a documentary but on stress had an interview with a woman called Vanessa. I also too had an interview with her so we both arranged to meet up and go together. However, she had emailed us saying that she wasn't able to make it in our documentary which was a problem as we had to find another person to interview instead. However, I had an interview instead with Sunita Pattani which was very successful.

What technical challenges did you face this week and how did you overcome them?

I used the iMac to put my footage that I got from the interview and shots in London on to. I began editing but was already having troubles with Final Cut Express as all my shots and sounds kept moving which meant that everything became out of sync. I couldn't control it but I got my teacher to help me with the problem which took a while to figure out why it was doing that, but in the end it was fixed.

What targets do you aim to achieve before your next entry?

My aim is to get some of my editing done of the interview and to interview Mrs Lowndes on the Friday 9th and the Vox Pops on the weekend.

Proposal

Aims

The aim of my documentary is to find out what causes someone to be under too much pressure. In this case, it's aimed at my target audience 16-24 year old's, typical of being under pressure due to exam stress, work overload, family problems etc. My aim is to show the target audience how they can overcome the pressure and the different ways people deal with being under pressure. 

Content

I will firstly be giving an overview for the beginning of my documentary to give a basic idea about the different reasons as to what it is young people are facing today. I will be presenting many facts on young people who become under pressure from the help of some experts that I will interview. Experts such as Counsellors and Hypnotherapists are who I am going to interview, and also teachers who deal with stressed pupils and the pupils that become under pressure. ASking a couple of pupils will allow the documentary to have different opinions on interpretations of being under pressure. 

Target Audience

My target audeince is British-aged 16 to 24 of all ethnicities and of both female and male. Some of the casts are young between the ages of 17 to 24 who I will be interviewing personally about how they're dealing with being under pressure. However, the experts are older because they would have more knowledge and greater experiences with dealing with people under pressure.I have aimed it at both genders because I want to send a message across to the young people about the topic I am studying on, and to hopefully help young people deal with their problems. 

Format

The modes I will be using for my documentary are informative and performative because I am basing the topic on myself as I have been affected by the subject many times due to exam season, family issues etc. I will be documenting facts to my target audience to help young people overcome their issues and problems that they have been suffering for a while.

Genre

My documentary will educate my audience through the interviews with the experts. Also, I will do my research and inform the audience on some facts that will interest them and keep them engaged. I will use facts and figures to give realistic information so it shows that I've actually dug deep into my research.  

Style

For the camera language in my documentary, I will make the shots look formal with the use of the tripod to make it look steady and professional. This will come in use when the interviews are being filmed because it will just be based on the interviewee. My audeince will know that through these accurate shots, the documentary is very important because it is a problem that young people are experiencing. I will be using close ups and mid shots of the interivee and the noddings of myself as I ask them the questions. Having this, will show the facial expressions which will make the audience realise how much of a serious topic it can be.

Graphics

I will not have as much fancy graphics going on because I feel as if it will take away the attention of the information that is being given out about the topic. When I have the interviews, I will use graphics to inform the audience of their name and their role/purpose to the documentary which will come of good use. I may use some pictures to describe a particular subject throughout the documentary to breakaway from seeing any footage so it is not just a documentary full of just interviews.

Sound

Sounds will be taken place from both the interviewee and interviewer. I may have background music for the opening and closing of the documentary to give off a livening mood, and also in the interviews, however if it is a distraction when listening to the interviewee speak, then I won't play the music in the background. I am going to use voiceovers to guide the audience on some topics so they know what they're about to watch. 

Mise-on-Scene

I am going to show many different locations that may reflect on the type of interviewee, e.g. I am interviewing a teacher so I am going to interview her in school in a class, or office etc. However, I may film my interviewee in a place where there is nice scenery or is relevant for them. 

Editing

I am going to use a lot of cuts so it is less boring because looking at a shot that is more than a few seconds can become aggravating for a viewer. I also want to to keep it simple so it shows through the serious of the type of documentary I am trying to perceive.
